Reliable and generous location filming incentives in the UK helped secure some of this summer’s biggest movies over California and the wider US. Brad Pitt’s zombie drama World War Z and action sequel Fast & Furious 6 are among this year’s big UK-filmed summer movies.
Action sequel Fast & Furious 6 takes the franchise to the UK but filmed many of its London-set scenes in Glasgow. Shooting took place in mid-2012 at a time when production activity in London was more restricted because of the Olympic Games.
Film London has revealed details of some of the high-profile feature projects coming to the English capital in the coming months. The London region made nearly GBP1 billion in direct production spending through 2011 and this year’s high-profile shoots have already included Bond film Skyfall.
Glasgow will host second-unit filming on the next in the Fast & Furious franchise in late August and early September 2012. The City Council confirmed the unit will be filming nights for the project - tentatively titled Fast 6 – and shooting will take place on Cadogan Street and Broomielaw.
When Vin Diesel directed the short Los Bandoleros, a prequel to the latest instalment of Fast & Furious, he chose to shoot the whole production in the Dominican Republic. Diesel's One Race Global Film Foundation, backed by Universal Studios, is also investing heavily in developing the country's industry. Diesel said at the short's premiere earlier this year that: "We had the whole country behind us making this film."
