Hit fantasy drama Game of Thrones has started 33 days of filming in Dubrovnik, in the Dalmatia region of Croatia’s Adriatic coast. The show, in production on its fifth season, is a repeat visitor to the historic city, which stands in for the drama’s iconic Kings Landing location.
Production company Heckler recruited stunt man Chuck Berry to film the innovative campaign 5X1NZ for Tourism New Zealand and STA Travel. The promotional spot follows Berry as he experiences five different adventure sports, one after the other, in less than an hour.
Quentin Tarantino will be given a USD 5 million filming incentive to shoot his new movie, Western drama The Hateful Eight, on location in Colorado. The filmmaker reportedly chose the state over Wyoming, where he shot scenes for his slavery drama Django Unchained.
Fantasy sequel Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass has filmed briefly on location in Gloucester, in south-west England, doubling the city’s historic docks for a period London setting of around 1850. The film will feature Johnny Depp resuming his role as Mad Hatter.
New TV miniseries The Dovekeepers is set to film on location in Malta, doubling the Mediterranean island for ancient Israel. Based on a popular novel, the drama will tell the story of the experiences of four women during the Roman Siege of Masada in 70 AD.
The Production Guild of Great Britain has announced a series of awards to be given to British production professionals at a Hertfordshire ceremony this weekend. Location Manager Sue Quinn will be recognised for her work on Tom Cruise’s acclaimed sci-fi drama Edge of Tomorrow.
Welsh crime drama Hinterland is filming its second series on location in the Aberystwyth region of western Wales. The show’s dark tone is inspired by popular Scandinavian dramas like The Killing and it is filmed in both English and Welsh.
California has signed into law a boosted filming incentive that will take effect from 2015. Formalising a deal agreed in August, the move increases the state’s annual film fund to USD 330 million for the next five years.
