Filming for Star Wars Episode VIII will be based at Pinewood Studios, according to an official announcement from George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer. The movie will be the third Star Wars film in a row to shoot at the London production facility.
In the summer of 2014 Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Captain America descended on a large lake in a wooded part of rural north-east Hampshire to film Avengers: Age of Ultron. The Marvel production is one of the latest high-profile shoots to come to Hampshire.
Marvel filmed its superhero sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron partly in Seoul, Johannesburg and in Italy, expanding the story to international settings. The movie continues the adventures of Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Hawkeye.
A long-mooted sequel to the 1996 alien invasion movie Independence Day starts filming on location in New Mexico in the next few weeks. New Mexico is the top US filming spot for desert locations, with recent movies including Lone Survivor and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Kenneth Branagh’s new live-action version of Disney’s Cinderella filmed at Pinewood Studios near London and also on location across southern England. The film is the latest live-action fairytale feature from Disney and follows the success of Maleficent, which also filmed in the UK.
Adam Sandler’s big-budget comedy Pixels and Guillermo del Toro’s gothic horror Crimson Peak helped boost international production spending in Ontario in 2014. Del Toro returns to Canada having also shot his 2013 monster movie Pacific Rim at Pinewood Studios Toronto.
Five studios in the US state of Georgia have come together to focus on training the regional film crew pool. The Georgia Studio & Infrastructure Alliance will also act as an advocacy group for local production. Georgia’s recent productions have included Selma and Ant-Man.
Disney will film a full season of children’s drama The Chronicles of Evermoor near Liverpool and Warrington in northern England. Lime Pictures will produce the show, which will extend the format from the four-part miniseries shot last year at Arley Hall in Cheshire.
