Lincoln Lawyer producer shouts out for filming incentives in Colombia
Juan Manuel Santos, President of Colombia, wants to launch an incentive scheme that could include a 40% rebate, in a move that might establish the country as a production powerhouse. Producer Scott Steindorff, who most recently worked on feature film The Lincoln Lawyer, is supporting the plan.
Steindorff is working on a film charting the life of infamous Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, as well as a separate action TV show, both of which could potentially be filmed in Colombia. In an interview with Colombia Reports, Steindorff explained that the feature will film wherever offers the best incentives.
I’ve told the Government before that you guys have an opportunity to create a multi-billion dollar industry in your country because of your proximity to the United States.

As he sees it, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Florida all have the financial edge over Colombia at the moment: “I’ve told the Government before that you guys have an opportunity to create a multi-billion dollar industry in your country because of your proximity to the United States. You have diverse locations, but there are incentives all over the world.”
President Santos told the outlet: “We believe this [incentive scheme] can generate a boom in movies filmed in our territory, because we also have exceptional landscapes with locations, contrasting climates and settings only minutes away from each other, as well as top talent.”
Colombia’s shaking off the negative image that’s lingered over the past few years and is already popular in the commercials industry. Specsavers, Corona Light, Timberland and Guinness have all filmed in the country over the past 18 months.
