Brazil

Brazil is seen as a growing international power following its big profile boost hosting the 2016 Summer Olympics, when production companies throughout the country worked with major international brands.

Rio de Janeiro remains one of Brazil’s main production hubs and recently hosted an action-packed Superbowl commercial for Pokémon's 20th anniversary.

Brazil continues to broaden its international appeal as a filming location and has linked with global partners including Film London in the UK to encourage more co-productions. It has no shortage of world-class locations, from the colonial architecture of its bustling cities through to the wonders of the Amazon interior.

In terms of cast Sao Paulo was a good choice as there was a good pool of Brazilian actors for our favela scene, as well as Japanese-ancestry cast for our apartment scene and Caucasian cast for our London bank scene

Climate

Brazil’s climate has five regional climatic zones: equatorial, tropical, semi-arid, highland tropical and sub-tropical. The main cities on the inland plateau, Sao Paulo and Brasilia, enjoy mild weather with average temperatures of 19°C. The coastal cities and areas like Rio de Janeiro have warmer climates. Rio's average temperature is around 26°C but can reach 38°C in the summer.

The south has a sub-tropical climate, with hot summers and cold winters. Between July and August, the southern winter, temperatures fall below freezing. The Amazon basin is warm and wet, with high humidity and temperatures reaching 32°C.

Equipment

Local
There is a wide variety of equipment available, although this is obviously very regional in such an expansive country.
Most camera equipment is Arri. Panavison, Aaton and HDV cameras are also available.
There are plenty of cranes, dollies and remote heads. Stabilised heads, camera-cars and shot-makers are very good quality.

Entry requirements
Equipment can be brought in as extra baggage but you will need to have an equipment list, with serial numbers, in case customs asks for a copy. Customs brokers will handle and expedite release of equipment sent by cargo or shipped separately. Once again, your local production partner should help with the procedures.
