Greece

Greece’s financial crisis has continued for another year and continues to dominate international headlines.

Beyond the country’s economic problems, Greece still offers an abundance of unique historical architecture and eye-catching geography in Macedonia, the Peloponnese, Thrace, Epirus and the Greek islands.

Apart from Greece's beauty, it also offers a modern infrastructure for handling international films
and production companies with a strong track record in co-productions, experienced crews and service companies that can provide you with the necessary equipment.

The government will be prioritising its financial recovery ahead of providing continued subsidies for the international production industry, but the country’s history and natural vistas remain a stunning appeal.

Greek technicians are talented and show a professional attitude. If more Hollywood productions choose Greece as their shooting location, Greek technicians will acquire more experience. Greece needs to offer more financial incentives to foreign production interested in shooting their projects abroad.

Climate

Greece is an ideal place for shooting in exterior locations as weather conditions remain favourable for filming throughout the year.

Due to the country's geographical position, its rugged relief and its distribution between the mainland and the sea, it has a varied climate.

In the summer, dry hot days are cooled by seasonal winds called the meltemi, while mountainous regions have generally lower temperatures. The winters are mild in lowland areas, with a minimum amount of snow and ice.

Mountains are usually snow-covered. A common phenomenon is the occurrence of different climactic conditions during the same season (for instance, mild heat in coastal areas and cool temperatures in mountainous regions).
