Major productions filmed in the Dublin area have included Ripper Street and Vikings. Ripper Street is a key example of successfully dividing a production between Ireland and the UK. Dublin doubled for Victorian London across all five seasons, but post work was done in the UK.
Ireland has increased its Section 481 filming incentive from 28% to 32% and, in addition, the tax credit has been expanded to include salaries paid to stars coming in from outside the European Union.
The presence of Star Wars: The Force Awakens has bolstered Ireland's production industry immensely. Star Wars: The Last Jedi returned to Ireland to shoot in Skellig Michael and Donegal in 2015.
With Ireland's international reputation growing, the race is on to expand the country's offerring of sound stages. After the success of Troy Studios in Limerick, discussions are underway to bring a state-of-the-art film studio to Dublin's Docklands.
Climate
Ireland enjoys a moderate climate. The coldest months are January and February, with average daily air temperatures of between around 4C and 7C. July and August are the hottest months, with temperatures between 14C and 16C and May and June are normally the sunniest. Light rain is common in Ireland and occurs during roughly 150-200 days of each year.
