Minnesota

Minnesota features a continental climate with some of the widest variety of weather in the US. This allows a full range of location shooting across four distinct seasons. With thousands of miles of shoreline, the state features metropolitan centers like Minneapolis and Saint Paul, with both historic architecture and ultra-modern style locations.

Minnesota’s incentive programme, Snowbate, provides a rebate of up to 25% of qualified in-state expenditures. This can be combined with an additional reimbursement of 20% of eligible expenditures when filming in the northeastern part of the state. The incentive fund was increased by USD4.5 million in 2016, bringing the total to USD6 million.

The state's production schedule has been relatively scarce as of late. After hosting the filming of Sundance favourite, Dear White People back in 2013, the only major production to have shot since is 2016's I Am Not a Serial Killer. The film was shot in Virginia, Minneapolis, St. Paul and Golden Valley.
