Taiwan is still one of my most memorable productions thus far. Not only did we have a great team, but the country had so much to offer. It was a real adventure to shoot there.

Martin Scorsese shot in Taiwan for his period drama Silence. He was reportedly alerted to Taiwan’s location filming possibilities by fellow filmmaker Ang Lee. Silence was supported by Taipei City Government and Taipei Film Commission.
Taipei got a recent profile boost from the international success of Luc Besson’s sci-fi action movie Lucy, which filmed partly on location in the Taiwanese capital.
Taipei offers a million-dollar completion fund for international productions filming in the city, as well as a USD500,000 incentive towards marketing costs. There are plans to launch an additional international film fund within the next three years.
Separate filming incentives are available from the central government.
The Taipei Film Commission assists productions and initiates local training programmes. Forming co-production agreements with countries in Europe and the US is also a strong focus for the commission – it already has a good relationship with France, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong – and these ventures could help build a more experienced local crew base
in Taipei.
