Victoria, Australia

Nearly 60 different productions were filmed in Victoria in 2009/10. The seal of approval doesn’t get much more attention-grabbing than when the Steven Spielberg-produced The Pacific chose to film in and around Melbourne.

The Pacific and smaller projects like Where the Wild Things Are have taken advantage of the state’s natural beauty. Filmmakers will find lush forests, dramatic mountain ranges in the You Yangs and awe-inspiring sand dunes in Discovery Bay.

Much is on offer in the city as well. Melbourne has been used to double for everywhere from London to New York and Chicago. The period architecture provides a film-friendly blend of post-modern, art-deco and colonial styles – a gift for any Location Manager.

Victoria has two separate incentive programmes – the Production Investment Attraction Fund and the Regional Location Assistance Fund – which offer cash rebates once a production has finished. Melbourne Central City Studios is 1.5km from the city centre and has five sound stages.
