Sleeping on location at the Sukhothai Bangkok Hotel
We all agree that sleep is key to wellbeing, mood and overall health. Good quality sleep is even more important when filming on location for long periods of time and certain crew members (think locations and the production department) often don’t get nearly enough of it!
I was reading an article recently though that suggested it is not all about the amount of sleep you get but the quality of sleep. The depth of sleep is key for the body and mind to really get the right rest and recover. Directors, producers, crews and actors on multiple country shoots also often suffer from jetlag, which we all know can be a nightmare and have a negative effect on performance.
There are things we can do, however, to improve getting to sleep and sleeping comfortably that contribute to good recovery on location and one of these is choosing a hotel with the basic ingredient of low external noise levels even in the middle of a bustling city.
On a recent trip to Thailand I stayed at the film-friendly world famous Sukhothai Bangkok Hotel. Set back from the busy Sathorn Road down a long drive in its own grounds but bang in the middle of the city, the Sukhothai sits in an oasis of peace, water and greenery with low exterior noise levels!
The Sukhothai management clearly understand a lot about sleep. They don’t only provide probably the most comfortable mattress and bed I have ever slept on but high quality pillows to match. The Sukhothai lets you have a selection of pillows and even a pillow menu - if the pillows in your room do not meet your entire satisfaction you can pick up the phone and ask for softer or firmer! The sheets are made from the finest Egyptian cotton and double glazing all contribute to getting what I can only describe as the perfect night’s sleep.
To help you prepare for sleep the Sukhothai also have a great pool (probably the best pool in Bangkok) a highly equipped gym with experienced trainers, steam room, sauna and whirlpool as well as an exceptional spa for that anti jetlag pre-shoot soothing massage!
The breakfast menu is exceptional and served in lovely surroundings to get you all set for another day’s location shoot in some exotic Bangkok location or even further afield.
