Marvel’s Black Panther enters production, heading to South Korea and Atlanta
Black Panther, the eighteenth instalment in Marvel’s long-running cinematic universe has now entered into production. The film will head to South Korea for on location filming, and Atlanta for studio shoots.
Both of these locations are no strangers to Marvel productions. Avengers: Age of Ultron descended upon Mapo Bridge and Digital Media City for a high-speed car chase, while Pinewood Studios Atlanta has become a favourite spot amongst the superhero crowd.
While on location in Seoul, the South Korean Government covered roughly a third of Age of Ultron’s local expenditure to ensure that the country was portrayed in a positive light. The payout amounted to just over USD2 million.
South Korea’s 25% cash rebate can be accessed when a minimum local spend of USD100,000 is met.
Black Panther (real name, T’Challa), made his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War, siding with Iron Man in an attempt to avenge his father’s death. With his father gone, T’Challa must now assume the role of King to the fictional African nation of Wakanda.
Described as being a technologically advanced territory, the aesthetic of Wakanda will most likely be found in areas like the aforementioned Digital Media City, thanks to its modern architecture.
Chadwick Boseman will reprise his role as the titular superhero, starring alongside Martin Freeman, Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan.
The third entry in Marvel’s ensemble series, Avengers: Infinity War also went into production earlier this month. The project is currently taking up residency at Pinewood Studios Atlanta, before moving to the UK to shoot on location in Scotland.
Georgia’s continued popularity with Marvel Studios can be attributed to the state’s lucrative 30% cash rebate. With no cap on the amount that can be claimed, the incentive has lured a plethora of high-budget productions.
