Mauritius to officially launch location filming incentive at Berlin Film Festival
Mauritius will officially launch a location filming incentive at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2013. Positioned east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean, the island is offering a rebate of up to 30% on eligible production spending.
The incentive programme will be available to a range of different production formats, including features, TV shows and commercials. Producers will receive the rebate following an audit of their production spending.
“I think the incentive will boost the whole film industry here,” said Andreas Habermeyer, a Mauritius-based producer with Identical Pictures: “It is - worldwide - the only film incentive for TV commercials. We’ll be more attractive for film shoots in all categories and so more crew from South Africa might relocate.”
Productions will need to reach a minimum-spend figure in order to qualify for the rebate and full details will be made available in Berlin.
