Michigan Film Office promotes Ann Arbor versatility with film location map

The Michigan Film Office is promoting Ann Arbor with a new film map. Locations used by movies throughout the popular university town outside Detroit are labelled and the hope is that it will boost filming in the area.

Carrie Jones is Director of the Michigan Film Office: “Ann Arbor and the surrounding communities have served as the background for more than 30 projects that have filmed in Michigan and have also been a popular destination for stars, directors and producers when they are not filming."

Jones adds: “This tour provides a unique look at this region and compliments the small-town charm and big city sophistication that embodies Ann Arbor.”

Michigan has been appealing mainly to lower-budget productions since its film fund was reduced in 2011. So far in the 2013 fiscal year four separate projects have been given incentive support worth slightly less than USD1.6 million. The big-budget remake of RoboCop was perhaps the highest-profile visitor, filming second-unit footage in Detroit.
