MJZ recreates the US for McDonald’s on location in central England
MJZ is recreating US locations including New York, Chicago and Texas for a new McDonald’s spot. The high street in Tarporley, a small town near Chester in central England, has been one filming location this week.
David Sejrup has been working with the production through Cheshire West and Chester Council: “We’ve had set dressing including American-style fire hydrants, replaced signage, several New York yellow cabs and steaming manhole covers.

“There were also 20 or 30 extras in American-looking clothes and several dressed as American police officers. As I understand it, the concept was a US setting but put through a UK filter.”
The turnaround from planning to actual filming was much quicker than usual, leading to tensions among a handful of local businesses on Tarporley’s high street who said they hadn't been informed in time. McDonald's has disputed this to local media, saying letters were sent out in a timely fashion.
The spot will be released in the next few weeks.
