Music videos and corporate films boost LA location filming in First Quarter

More music videos and corporate films being shot in Los Angeles have boosted the city’s location filming figures for the First Quarter of 2011. Despite the overall 4.7% increase on the same period in 2010, feature and TV production declined.

Los Angeles recorded just over 11,600 production days through January, February and March and it was the fifth quarter in a row to register an increase. Ten feature projects and eight TV projects took advantage of the California Film & Television Tax Credit.

Pilot production is up and we have a couple of big features in production, so we're optimistic about a better set of numbers come July.

Ed Duffy, Chairman of Film LA

Ed Duffy, Chairman of Film LA, addressed the decrease in major feature and TV production: "The latest data suggest a softness in the industry but not a full loss of momentum. Pilot production is up and we have a couple of big features in production, so we're optimistic about a better set of numbers come July."

A 20% increase in music videos, corporate films and student projects filming on location was the main reason for the general production hike this year.
