New York State filming incentive attracts eight new TV shows for 2011-12

No fewer than eight new TV shows will be filmed in New York State throughout the 2011-12 season. The state’s expanded and revised production incentives have been credited with attracting 70 different projects so far this year, with a mix of location and studio work likely.

The Film Production Tax Credit Programme is worth up to 30% for qualifying projects and has an annual fund of USD420 million confirmed through to 2014. Nearly 600 productions have taken advantage of the scheme since it was launched and more than USD9 billion has been generated for the state.

No longer just a location for quick exterior shoots of iconic locations, New York is now a first choice when deciding where to film.

Dana Kuznetzkoff, Vice-Chair of the Producers Guild of America East, said: “The New York State Film Production Credit programme has turned New York into a major player in the film and television industry. No longer just a location for quick exterior shoots of iconic locations, New York is now a first choice when deciding where to film. The best crews in the industry plus a tremendous tax credit programme are an electric combination for quality entertainment.”

Having so many new TV series filming in the state will lead to the creation of more than 4,000 industry jobs, according to figures from the Governor’s Office for Motion Picture and Television Development.

While the state’s clearly popular for TV, Men in Black 3 and The Bourne Legacy are also filming. Men in Black 3 rearranged its shooting schedule to ensure it qualified for the revised incentive scheme.
