Newark Film Office launches in New Jersey

New Jersey’s largest city now has its own film office, launched by Mayor Cory A Booker. The Newark Office of Film and Television (NOFT) will work alongside the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission, and Newark’s Office of Communications. Its main job will be helping out-of-state production companies navigate the state incentive and location searches.

Mayor Booker said: “Newark has been a hub for television and film productions for decades, ranging from 30-second commercials to major motion pictures like Presumed Innocent and War of the Worlds. Creating this office will help us continue to leverage Newark as a world-class location for TV and film production.”

The state offers a 20% tax credit for eligible projects and a range of new studio facilities could entice filmmakers. Among them is Ironbound Studios, situated less than 30 minutes from Manhattan. It’s still under construction but will eventually offer nearly 80,000 square feet of studio space.
