Angelina Jolie has Bosnian location filming permit revoked

The Bosnian Government has revoked a filming permit for Angelina Jolie’s untitled directorial debut, set during the Bosnian war of the mid-1990s. The decision comes after the Women Victims of War association in the country responded angrily to reports that the film features a love story between a Serbian rapist and his Muslim victim.

Gavrilo Grahovac, Bosnia’s Minister for Culture, said the permit has been revoked as a screenplay was not submitted with the original application as required. He explained: “They no longer have the authorisation to shoot in Bosnia. They will have it if they send us the scenario with a story which will be different from what we have been told by people who read it.”

Jolie said: “There are many twists in the plot that address the sensitive nature of the relationship between the main characters and that will be revealed once the film is released. My hope is that people will hold judgment until they have seen the film.”

GK Films, producing the project, confirmed that the film is reapplying for the permit with a full screenplay. Jolie is currently filming in Budapest, with servicing from Raleigh Studios. Scout Film is servicing the project in Bosnia.
