Angelina Jolie plans directorial debut in Eastern Europe
Angelina Jolie plans to spend the autumn in Eastern Europe directing a love story set during the Bosnian War of the mid-90s. The actress is a Goodwill Ambassador for the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and visits the Balkans regularly.
In a statement released through the UNHCR when Jolie made a surprise visit to Sarajevo over the weekend, the actress said: “The film is a love story, not a political statement. I would like to involve as many local people as possible and learn as much as I can.”
Much of the cast will be hired locally and details of specific shooting locations have not yet been released. Jolie will direct her own screenplay but is not expected to take a role in front of the camera.
