Ian McKellen gives July start date for The Hobbit
Ian McKellen has said on his website that The Hobbit is scheduled to start shooting in New Zealand in July. The website initially gave June as a start date but this has since been changed.
He’ll be resuming his role as the wizard Gandalf for the production and although he has referred on his website to “a first draft crammed with old and new friends”, he is the only member of the Lord of the Rings cast who is so far confirmed to return.
Mexican filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro is directing the project, to be shot as two back-to-back films, with Peter Jackson closely involved as a producer. The past few weeks have seen lots of uncertainty over the film’s production schedule due to news of shifting release dates.
