LA sees 16% production increase for Q2

Los Angeles has seen a 16% increase in general filming production activity during the second quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2009, reports the Los Angeles Daily News.

According to figures from FilmLA, there were 1,542 permitted shoot days for feature films in the city in April, May and June, while many more audiovisual projects also filmed. California’s tax credit scheme was responsible for attracting over 25% of the feature films.

Paul Krekorian, an LA City Councilman, told the paper: “[The tax credit bill] clearly has had the impact that we’d hoped. [We’ve had] tremendous job growth, production increasing, California being more competitive with the rest of the country and the world - and that means keeping people here in Los Angeles at work.”

In total, well over 11,400 permitted production days took place in Q2 in Los Angeles across the audiovisual industry. California’s incentives are available for feature films budgeted between USD1 million and USD75 million.
