New Zealand Government keen to keep Hobbit films in NZ
The New Zealand Government has offered to help mediate meetings between producers of the planned Hobbit films and unhappy acting unions. Peter Jackson warned last week that failure to reach a deal could result in production shifting to Eastern Europe.
John Key, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, said: “I would be very, very concerned if [the production] moved offshore. If you can’t make The Hobbit here, frankly, what movies are you going to make here?”
The production suffered yet another potential setback last week when Wellington’s Portsmouth Miniatures Studio suffered serious damage in a fire. The studio was used to shoot miniature sets during the production of the Lord of the Rings a decade ago and was due to be used for the Hobbit films.
