FilmWorks Dubai shoots flying acrobats in new spot for Atlantis The Palm hotel

FilmWorks Dubai and New York-based Psyop worked with trained acrobats to film a new spot for luxury hotel Atlantis The Palm in Dubai. Smart Migration shows a ‘flock’ of men and women flying birdlike from around the world to the Dubai hotel.

Filming took place on location at Atlantis The Palm for four days and used professional acrobats for shots of men and women ‘landing’ in different parts of the hotel for a well-earned break.

“Suspended from multi-ton cranes, their individual stunts were rehearsed extensively before filming began, and each character was fitted with tailor-made costumes to disguise the flying harnesses,” explains agency JWT Dubai.

The hotel remained open during the shoot, so the 150-strong production team had to be careful to work around the holidaymakers and not disturb anyone.

A Shotover camera was mounted on a stabilised helicopter rig to film aerial shots of the hotel, while stock footage was used to show the ‘flock’ flying across London and Moscow.

Adds Ravini Perera, Senior Vice President of Marketing, PR and Sales, at Atlantis The Palm: “Thanks to the efficient co-operation between partners even this technically complex shoot has become a beautifully crafted story that really embodies the spirit of Atlantis’ message.”

Dubai is becoming an increasingly popular international filming location and Atlantis in fact recently hosted extensive filming for Shah Rukh Khan’s high-profile Bollywood movie Happy New Year. The city nevertheless remains under pressure to follow Abu Dhabi’s regional example and introduce a formal filming incentive.
