Fast & Furious 7 re-schedules Abu Dhabi location filming for April

Abu Dhabi location filming for upcoming action sequel Fast & Furious 7 will take place for a few days in April. A visual effects crew shot footage on location in November last year but the main shoot was postponed after the tragic death of franchise star Paul Walker.

“We look forward to welcoming the stars and crew of Fast & Furious 7 in April,” said Noura Al Kaabi, Chief Executive of service company twofour54 intaj: “This is a great opportunity to not only generate international exposure for Abu Dhabi, but to also provide young Emiratis with work experience, which could help them to become the region’s future filmmakers.”

Abu Dhabi’s 30% filming incentive was instrumental in attracting the Fast & Furious franchise and has also led to the emirate city hosting scenes for supernatural thriller Beware the Night, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Films.

“Abu Dhabi seemed like the natural choice for this feature because of its unique desert landscape, the 30% production rebate and because of the competitively-priced production services and facilities on offer here,” commented Beware the Night’s Executive Producer Glenn Gainor.

International location filming has become a trait of the Fast & Furious franchise and at one stage the producers even appealed to fans for suggestions as to where they should go next.

Much of Fast & Furious 6 was set in London, although Glasgow doubled for the English capital for some of the stunt work. Filming also took place in the Canary Islands, with Tenerife doubling for Costa Rica and mainland Spain.
