Manitoba extends location filming incentive programme to end of 2016
Manitoba in central Canada – famous for its polar bears – has extended its location filming incentives through to the end of 2016. Eligible productions shooting in the province can claim a labour tax credit of up to 65%, or a cost-of-production tax credit of up to 30%.
Nicole Matiation is Executive Director of On Screen Manitoba: “The extension of the Film and Video Tax Credit and the Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit to 2016 signals the Manitoba government’s ongoing support to develop the media production industry with regard to film, television and convergent projects."
Matiation adds: “We’re very pleased that Manitoba is responsive to the needs of our sector as it adapts to the rapidly changing media landscape.”
Manitoba’s base filming labour tax credit is 45%, but the programme also rewards productions that shoot on location in rural areas and projects that employ a local producer. A 10% bonus is also available for ‘frequent filmers’.
