Action thriller sequel The Purge 3 to film on location in Rhode Island
A second follow-up to hit 2013 action thriller The Purge is set to film in Rhode Island in the eastern US. The franchise follows disparate characters in a dystopian future where for one night each year all crime is legal.
The Purge tells a story of a family defending their home from a violent gang and follow-up The Purge: Anarchy broadens the canvas to follow four people caught out in the open as the night of legalised crime begins.
“Congratulations to the Rhode Island Film & Television Office on bringing another major motion picture production to our state,” said Randall Rosenbaum, executive director of Rhode Island State Council on the Arts.
“Film productions like this help to energise the Ocean State culturally and economically, and provide employment to a number of Rhode Island’s creative workers.”
“Our state provides a beautiful backdrop for a variety of major motion pictures from comedies to love stories to suspense thrillers,” added Rhode Island’s House Speaker Nicholas Matiello.
“Furthermore, this innovative industry has proven to be an economic catalyst for the talented artists and hard-working crew members, many of whom are based right here in Rhode Island. It also provides an introduction to first-time visitors who inevitably fall in love with our Ocean State.”
Rhode Island has hosted a few high-profile feature productions in the last few years, including Wes Anderson’s acclaimed Moonrise Kingdom and the bigger-budget supernatural thriller RIPD.
The Rhode Island shoot seems to mark a change in setting for the Purge franchise, which filmed its first two instalments in Los Angeles.
