BBC films period drama Poldark in Bath
The BBC has filmed scenes for its new period drama Poldark on location in Bath in the west of England. Production is based at The Bottle Yard Studios in nearby Bristol, which was also the long-term home of Channel’s period drama New Worlds.
Filming locations in Bath have included Prior Park College, the oldest parts of which date back to the mid-18th Century.
“It was our privilege to host the cast and crew of such a well-loved period drama,” said James Murphy-O’Connor, Headmaster at Prior Park College, in comments to the Bath Chronicle: “Our Mansion, the former home of Bath visionary Ralph Allen, is a constant source of inspiration to all of us who live and learn here, and we were happy to have the opportunity to share that inspiration.
“The Mansion Hall was transformed into a sumptuous set appropriate to the late 18th Century in which Poldark is set, and we look forward to seeing the fruits of the shoot when the programme is aired.”
Filmmakers come to Bath because of the city’s amazing architecture and support they receive from the council and the city’s film-friendly locations.
Councillor Ben Stephens, Bath and North East Somerset Council
Added Councillor Ben Stephens, of Bath and North East Somerset Council: “2014 has been a busy year for filming in Bath and north east Somerset, which is great news for the local economy. Filmmakers come to Bath because of the city’s amazing architecture and support they receive from the council and the city’s film-friendly locations. Poldark is a prime example of this.”
Poldark is set in 1783 and tells the story of a businessman coping with personal and business struggles in a recession-hit Cornwall.
