Creative Scotland criticises downsizing of Edinburgh location filming team
Creative Scotland has criticised a decision to reduce the number of staff who promote location filming in Edinburgh. Marketing Edinburgh promotes the Scottish capital to the world but announced it will be reducing the size of its locations team.
Producers and Location Managers wrote an open letter to The Scotsman newspaper calling for the decision to be reversed and they now have the support of Creative Scotland as well. The fear is that reducing the locations team will suggest that Edinburgh is not as dedicated to the production industry as it once was.
“At a positive time for film in Scotland,” Creative Scotland told the paper in a statement, “it is disappointing that Marketing Edinburgh have decided to cut their locations team by half. In the coming year, we will be putting more resources into promoting Scotland as a place to make films.”

“We believe,” Marketing Edinburgh told the outlet, “that we’ve made the right decisions in balancing all aspects of our remit from the film unit to supporting the council and other businesses across the city.”
Scotland is enjoying greater international focus at the moment. Cloud Atlas filmed in both Edinburgh and Glasgow, while Brad Pitt’s World War Z doubled Glasgow for Philadelphia.
