Former Doctor Who execs set up production company with South Wales office
Two former BBC executives and veterans of Doctor Who and Da Vinci’s Demons have set up new production company Bad Wolf that will have an office in South Wales. Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner plan to bring GBP 100 million of investment to Wales over the next ten years.
Tranter and Gardner have spent the past few years heading BBC Worldwide Productions in Los Angeles and brought the adventure drama series Da Vinci’s Demons to the Swansea area. The show is now being brought to an end, but local filming delivered more than GBP 70 million to the Welsh economy over three seasons.
Bad Wolf with have offices in South Wales and in Los Angeles, and will focus on producing high-end TV for the international market.
“TV has changed beyond all recognition in the past decade,” said Tranter: “Huge international productions made on movie-scale budgets have put British TV at the forefront of this revolution. We are delighted to be working with Welsh Government to grow this industry and continue to benefit the economy of Wales.”
Added Edwina Hart, Welsh Minister for the Economy: “Jane and Julie already have strong and established relationships with both US and UK broadcasters and their slate of international productions will play an important role in developing and sustaining a strong crew base in Wales and will ensure global television content is produced from the region for many years to come.”
Wales is set to host a full series of Kurt Sutter’s new historical drama series The Bastard Executioner. The country will also soon have a new post-production hub when Dragon is re-launched in Bridgend with specialist connections to London.
