Galway Film Centre invites producers to scout regional filming locations

A group of producers has visited Galway in western Ireland to scout regional filming locations at the invitation of the Galway Film Centre. The ten producers spent two days visiting the city and nearby locations like the picturesque Inagh Valley and the historic Kylemore Abbey.

It’s the second time the visit has been arranged, with Galway Film Centre looking to be pro-active in marketing the region to Ireland’s filmmaking community.

“You can sit down and wait for the next Guard (a 2011 comedy-drama from writer-director John Michael McDonagh) to happen or you can go out and try to make it happen,” the Galway Film Centre’s Declan Gibbons told Galway News: “The idea is to encourage producers, production managers and location managers to come to Galway and use the facilities here.”

While the Galway Film Showcase focussed on co-producers based in Dublin, Ireland’s international appeal has been boosted by its Section 481 location filming incentive programme. High-end BBC show Ripper Street filmed in Dublin, but Ireland will soon face stiffer competition when the UK launches a new TV tax credit.
