Inverness in Scotland could be filming location for planned TV drama
Inverness in north-eastern Scotland could become the filming location for planned TV crime drama Here Comes the Night. The production is in development at Young Films, responsible for TV series Bannan, the first Gaelic-language TV show in almost 20 years.
“There are a number of things that are appealing about Inverness as a setting,” producer Chris Young told the BBC.
“In recent times it has seen an urban sprawl of new developments that stand alongside a very gothic and historic city centre. The mix of old and modern, urban, suburban and rural offers a great setting for a contemporary Scottish drama.
“The city offers an exciting opportunity to make a really interesting commentary on modern Scottish life. It offers a break away from the stereotypes that other Scottish cities have been bogged down in when portrayed in TV and film.”
Young Films is based on Skye, where it also films Bannan (above). Skye has had a high-profile year, providing background plate shots for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming family fantasy The BFG, and being used as a key location in Michael Fassbender’s critically-acclaimed Macbeth adaptation.
Macbeth will in fact be a key part of a new VisitScotland campaign that will use the film to promote Skye and other parts of Scotland associated with the Macbeth story.
“The new film adaptation will generate renewed excitement and interest in one of Scotland’s most intriguing figures,” said Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland.
Production support is available in Inverness and throughout northern Scotland via the Highlands of Scotland Film Commission.
