James Bond movie Spectre films in Austria
New James Bond movie Spectre is filming on location in Austria, continuing a shoot that’s scheduled to span seven months and at least five different countries. The new film’s title was announced at Pinewood Studios in December.
Shooting has started at Lake Altausee in central Austria and the schedule will also take in locations in the western Tirol region. Production spending in Tirol could reach EUR 6 million over the 22-day shoot, according to the Cine Tirol Film Commission.
“James Bond in Tirol is the ultimate accolade for Cine Tirol, as the driving force for the region of Tirol as a filming location,” said Johannes Köck, director of Cine Tirol.
“This movie will draw the attention of the entire film industry to our region and help facilitate the acquisition of further international follow-up projects.
“In addition, 150 Tirolean filmmakers will get the chance to gain valuable experience in the context of such a large and prominent film production.”
Austria has enjoyed a profile boost in the past year hosting scenes for Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 5 and the World War Two drama Woman in Gold.
Spectre is based at Pinewood Studios in the UK and will also film on location in Morocco, Rome and Mexico City. Sam Mendes returns to direct Daniel Craig's fourth Bond entry.
In the context of the Bond franchise, the name ‘Spectre’ refers to a criminal organisation run by iconic villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld. The character is widely thought to be played by Christoph Waltz in the new film, but the producers are keeping the detail secret.
Spectre will be released in October this year.
