Larry David film Clear History doubles Boston for Martha’s Vineyard locations
Comedian Larry David has filmed his new cable feature Clear History mostly on location in and around Boston, doubling the region for the affluent island of Martha’s Vineyard in southern Massachusetts.
“People who know the Island well will know we cheated, but a lot of people who saw the movie at the premiere thought we had shot the whole movie on Martha’s Vineyard,” director Greg Mottola told the Vineyard Gazette: “I like movies where you have a sense of place and it’s not generic.”
The production was originally planned as a theatrical release and was under pressure to film entirely in Wilmington, North Carolina, but the principal talent were reluctant. Instead the project got the backing of cable channel HBO, who agreed to compromise on the filming locations.
Larry David co-created the hit sitcom Seinfeld in the 90s and has since found continued success with Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO.
