Lego Movie company Animal Logic officially opens new office in Vancouver
Australian production company Animal Logic, responsible for global hit The Lego Movie, has officially opened a new office in Vancouver. The move was made to bring the company closer to Los Angeles as it works on three films for Warner Bros including The Lego Movie Sequel.
Animal Logic’s relationship with Warner Bros spans nearly two decades and computer-animated films including the penguin musical Happy Feet.
The production company is maintaining its Sydney presence, where it’s working on Lego Movie spinoffs Lego Batman and Ninjago.
“We are delighted to officially open our doors in Vancouver,” said Sharon Taylor, executive vice president and general manager of Animal Logic Vancouver.
“The city has such a rich and diverse talent pool that it made perfect sense for us to expand our operations into Canada to support our growing slate of animated productions.”
Added Zareh Nalbandian, chairman and CEO of Animal Logic: “Animal Logic Vancouver is a significant expansion of our global capabilities while being the perfect complement to our operations in Sydney and Los Angeles and I’m excited that we’re doing so in such a fantastic city and with such incredibly talented crew.”
Vancouver is developing a visual effects production hub, with growth driven by a generous 17.5% filming incentive for visual effects work completed in the city.
Over the summer Sony Pictures Imageworks officially relocated its new headquarters from California to Vancouver.
British Columbia faces competition in the visual effects market from Quebec, which offers a more generous 20% incentive. The province has attracted Technicolor and Cinesite over the past two years.
