Los Angeles film and television location filming surges in Q1 of 2013

A surge in film and TV location filming in Los Angeles led to a production increase in the city of nearly 18% for the first quarter of 2013. Feature production rose by 25% compared to the same period in 2012 and overall filming for television went up by 19%.

“We’re viewing the latest numbers with caution and optimism,” said FilmLA President Paul Audley: “One quarter can’t undo all the troubling declines we’ve experienced, but we’re certainly encouraged to see things moving in an upward direction.”

Pilots and comedies posted the biggest TV filming increases for the quarter with rises of nearly 40%, but drama production also rose, albeit by a smaller figure of about 22%. FilmLA described the numbers as the best the city had seen in the TV sector for more than five years.
