Los Angeles lowers cost of Grand Park location filming
Los Angeles County authorities have agreed to reduce the cost of location filming permits at the recently-opened Grand Park on a short-term basis. Prices have been lowered from USD20,000 a day per block of park space to USD5,000 a day, but Film LA believes the cost is still too high.
“At these filming rates we're pretty sure we won't be issuing film permits for Grand Park,” FilmLA President Paul Audley told Southern California Public Radio: “All other parks are USD400 dollars and even the premiere parks like Descanso Gardens range from USD1,500 to a maximum of USD6,400 for the whole park.”
Grand Park is a popular public space, attracting nearly 20,000 visitors since opening in 2012, but it’s had much less success as a filming location. The impact of the cheaper rate will be assessed in six months.
