Milk & Honey Films opens new office for commercial servicing in Cape Town
Milk & Honey Films has opened a new office in Cape Town as the company seeks to expand its commercial servicing presence to South Africa. The firm’s international presence already includes Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Prague and Shanghai.
“Cape Town production services include world-class, talented crews who create the best quality work at unbeatable value,” Milk & Honey Films said in a statement: “Milk & Honey Films has seen the huge amount of work happening there and the further potential that is to come. Just in time for the summer season in the southern hemisphere, Milk & Honey Films opens their doors.”
South Africa is firmly established as a global production hub, with a generous filming incentive package being a major part of the country’s international production appeal.
American terrorism drama Homeland is now a Cape Town resident, having moved to South Africa from North Carolina, and the popular pirate drama Black Sails is based at Cape Town Film Studios. The filmmaking facility wants to expand to better cater for international demand.
South Africa’s recent high-profile commercial shoots have included BMW’s Driftmob, which involved a fleet of BMWs stunt-driving in downtown Cape Town. Over the summer Ikea set up a series of elaborate crane stunts for its Beds campaign, featuring a high-rise tumble for one brave actress.
Earlier this year parts of Johannesburg were turned into a Prohibition-era US city for a Dulux campaign and South African locations have increasingly been doubled for the US in TV productions as well. The experiences of the Homeland production team, perhaps the biggest international shoot in the country, could prove decisive in boosting South Africa’s global profile.
