Pinewood Studios starts work on new filming stage at London facility
Pinewood Studios has started work on a new stage at its facility outside London. The GBP7.5 million build will comprise a 30,000-square-foot stage and 15,000 square feet of production office and workshop space. It’s scheduled to be ready for autumn 2013.
“The need for capacity in the UK and at Pinewood is just as pressing as ever,” comments the studio’s Director of Strategy and Communications Andrew M Smith: “The Pinewood Studios Development Framework proposes expansion onto our adjacent land after we have done everything we can to maximise the potential of the existing Studios."
“This means replacing older buildings that have become inefficient with stages, workshops and offices that meet the needs of modern productions," Smith adds.
Pinewood submitted a planning application for its new expansion plan earlier this month and intends to eventually spend nearly GBP200 million on new facilities, including streetscape sets. Its newest facility is The Richard Attenborough Stage, which was officially opened in April 2012.
