The Avengers 2 announces South Korea as additional filming location

Marvel has announced South Korea’s capital city Seoul as an additional filming location for its big-budget superhero sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron. The movie brings together Marvel’s most popular comic book heroes for a second adventure.

“South Korea is the perfect location for a movie of this magnitude because it features cutting-edge technology, beautiful landscapes and spectacular architecture,” said Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios and producer of the new film.

“We would especially like to thank the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) for making it possible for Avengers: Age of Ultron to come to Korea.”

Added Korea’s Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism, Yoo Jinryong: “We’re very excited to have the production in Korea and also expect this to serve as the footstep of many more opportunities yet to come.”

South Korea offers a 30% filming incentive for international productions that shoot on location for more than ten days and spend USD2 million locally. Smaller rebate payments are available for shorter, cheaper shoots.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be based in the UK. Second-unit filming is already underway in Johannesburg in South Africa, and production will also take place in northern Italy.

Filming on the new movie is on a much more international scale after the first film shot in the US with studio bases that took advantage of competitive filming incentives in New Mexico and New York.

Avengers Assemble – to use the UK title – went on to become the third-highest-grossing movie of all time, giving Marvel and writer/director Joss Whedon the flexibility to broaden the scope of the franchise.
