Filmmaker Alexander Payne to receive honorary award at LMGA event

Filmmaker Alexander Payne will receive The Eva Monley Award at the Location Managers Guild of America (LMGA) Awards in Los Angeles on 29 March. Director of Photography Haskell Wexler and Commercial Location Scout Scott Dewees will also get honorary awards.

Payne was nominated for Best Director at this year’s Academy Awards for his work on Nebraska (left) but The Eva Monley Award recognises his entire body of work “because he understands the power of good locations to enhance his storytelling”.

The late Eva Monley was a Location Scout specialising in remote parts of Africa who worked on such classic films as The African Queen and Lawrence of Arabia.

Payne’s Nebraska Location Manager John Latenser V is nominated for the award of Outstanding Achievement by a Location Professional in a Feature Film and Nebraska is also nominated for Outstanding Location Feature Film.

Director of Photography Haskell Wexler will receive The Humanitarian Award. Wexler won Oscars for his work on Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Bound for Glory, and he has also produced several documentaries as a channel for his progressive political thinking.

Commercial Location Scout Scott Dewees will receive the LMGA Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his long career.

Payne was nominated for Best Director at this year’s Academy Awards for his work on Nebraska but The Eva Monley Award recognises his entire body of work.
