Young Director Award prepares to open for 2014 competition
The CFP-E (Commercial Film Producers of Europe)/Shots Young Director Award (YDA) competition will open for entries on 10 February 2014. Filmmakers submitting their shorts will have the opportunity to showcase their work to the global production industry.
A panel of industry experts will judge the entries and shortlisted films will be screened in Cannes during the Cannes Lions advertising festival week in June.
“The next generation of filmmakers is the lifeblood of our industry,” said YDA president Francois Chilot, “so as an association of producers it is only natural to want to create a showcase for tomorrow’s directing stars. Although the work entered is among the director’s first four pieces of work, those that excel at the craft and bring a fresh and original quality to their work rise to the top. The YDA simply makes that process of discovering excellence easier.”
This year the competition is being expanded to include Charity films as a new sub-category, to recognise the high quality of productions being made in this part of the industry. There will also be a special producer award.
The competition’s new global regions will be Europe, Northern America, Latin America, Asia Pacific, Africa and Middle East.
