Cinema booking deal agreed between Pinewood Studios and 20th Century Fox
Pinewood Studios has agreed a deal with US studio 20th Century Fox to arrange cinema bookings for the films on its distribution slate. Spy drama Spooks: The Greater Good, filmed at Shepperton Studios, is one high-profile example due for theatrical release in May 2015.
“We’re really excited to be working with Fox’s world class sales team who I know will achieve the best possible distribution for Pinewood Pictures’ films,” said Gemma Spector, Pinewood Pictures’ Head of Distribution.
Added Cameron Saunders, Managing Director of UK Theatrical at 20th Century Fox: “We’re delighted to build upon our position as the UK’s leading film distributor and bring Pinewood Pictures’ films to UK audiences – giving great British product the first class ticket they deserve.”
Pinewood Shepperton Studios is among the UK’s flagship filmmaking brands. Disney and its subsidiary Lucasfilm shot Star Wars: The Force Awakens at Pinewood this year and the next Star Wars movie will also be based at the studio in 2015.
Earlier this year, the studio finally won approval for a major expansion plan – known as the Pinewood Studios Development Framework – and the design for the first stage of the new build has been submitted to local authorities. The studio plans to start work early next year on facilities including five additional sound stages to be ready for use in 2016.
Several of London’s major studio facilities are expanding to cater for the high international demand created by the UK’s generous film and TV tax credits, and also by Britain’s skilled crew base.
