Pinewood MBS Lighting to become exclusive lighting provider at London studios
From January 2015, Pinewood MBS Lighting is set to become the exclusive provider of lighting equipment to productions filming at Pinewood Studios and Shepperton Studios near London. The deal is the result of an agreement between Pinewood and management company MBS3.
“We’re delighted to partner with MBS to present an additional service for clients coming to our UK studios,” said Nick Smith, Pinewood’s Commercial Director: “With their wealth of experience MBS lighting are not only a great fit for Pinewood, but also for our clients who can expect great service and innovative new equipment as demonstrated by our partnership at Pinewood Atlanta Studios.”
Pinewood is about to launch a major expansion plan that will comprise a dozen new sound stages and various other production facilities. The Pinewood Studios Development Framework was approved in June six months after the opening of Q Stage, which is named after James Bond’s gadget master.
Work is also underway to expand Pinewood’s television facilities. The 7,500-square-foot F Stage has been made ‘TV-friendly’ with a connection to the studio’s TV Three gallery. Another, larger studio will undergo a similar conversion when development work starts on the film stage expansion.

Mark Hacket, Pinewood’s TV Sales Director, commented: “Converting F Stage starts the rebuilding of our capacity for TV. Having lost Teddington, we now have clear ambitions to re-enter the light entertainment market with vigour and a more impressive joined-up offering.”
Pinewood Studios is currently home to Star Wars: Episode VII, which starts a new trilogy in the iconic sci-fi saga. The studios will also host a separate standalone Star Wars movie in 2015. Other recent credits include Kenneth Baranagh’s Cinderella, Johnny Depp’s Mortdecai, Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings, and Brad Pitt’s Fury.
