Brooklyn Taxi first foreign TV series to get New York filming incentive

French TV series Brooklyn Taxi is to become the first international show to benefit from New York’s filming tax credit. The production will be based at Silvercup Studios in Queens and will also film on location in Brooklyn. It will be filmed in English for French television.

Producers on the show were planning a Canadian shoot until they realised the cost of shooting in New York would be levelled by the state’s generous filming incentive, Crain’s New York Business reports.

“At the beginning they thought it would be more money [to film in New York],” the show’s New York-based French producer Gaetan Rousseau told the outlet: “It took a few months to prove to them the budget would be the same.”

Productions shooting at least 75% of their footage in New York are eligible for the state’s 30% filming tax credit. Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 recently became the biggest ever feature to film entirely in New York.
