Period crime drama Ripper Street returns to Dublin to film third series
A third series of period crime drama Ripper Street will return to film in Dublin, using the city as a double for Victorian London. Flagging ratings had prompted the BBC to cancel the drama, but the show has been resurrected for streaming service Amazon Prime Instant Video.
Filming will begin in Dublin in May 2014 and production will be based at Clancy Barracks. The episodes will be available first to subscribers of the Amazon service – formerly branded as LOVEFiLM Instant – before later being screened on BBC One in the UK.
“This is very good news for the Irish film and television industry,” said James Hickey, Chief Executive of the Irish Film Board: “Ripper Street has benefited from the Irish Film Board’s International Production Fund, which aims to attract major TV and film projects to film on location in Ireland with Irish cast and crew.”
Added Andrew Lowe of production company Element Pictures: “We are delighted to welcome back our partners Tiger Aspect and Lookout Point and writer Richard Warlow for a third season of the brilliant Ripper Street. We look forward to helping them realise this next chapter in the Ripper Street story."

“We are immensely proud of the sterling work of the Irish cast and crew who have helped make Ripper Street such a critical and commercial success," Lowe added: "We particularly want to acknowledge the support of Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board which proved crucial to securing Ripper Street to shoot in Ireland for a third year."
Ireland offers a competitive filming incentive through its Section 481 programme. The incentive figure currently stands at 28% and this will rise to 32% in 2015.
