Shetland to get further location filming showcase with full BBC drama series
Shetland off the northern tip of Scotland will get another location filming showcase with a full series commission for the TV drama of the same name. Produced by ITV Studios for the BBC, the full series of Shetland will be based on three locally-set novels written by Ann Cleves.
“I am so pleased we are taking Shetland to a full series,” said Christopher Aird, Head of Drama for BBC Scotland and Executive Producer on Shetland: “[Actor] Douglas Henshall is a hugely talented lead and Shetland such a unique part of the country; we can look forward to a series of characterful, thrilling and windswept stories.”
Red Bones, the show’s two-part debut, won a large TV audience in March 2013 and so Shetland will return to film on location in the coming months.
On a lighter note, Shetland was also the recent setting for Blink Productions’ dancing pony commercial, filmed near the capital, Lerwick.
