Sky period TV drama Moonfleet to film in Ireland doubling for Dorset

Satellite broadcaster Sky will work with Element Pictures and Company Pictures to film a two-part television adaptation of period smuggling tale Moonfleet on location in Ireland. The novel was published in 1898 and is set in Dorset in the south of England.

Andrew Lowe is Managing Director of Element Pictures: “We are delighted to be in production with Sky and Company Pictures on Moonfleet following our successful collaboration on [Dublin-filmed 2009 crime miniseries] The Take.

“Sky’s decision to shoot in Ireland is an endorsement of the quality of Irish cast and crews, and demonstrates the importance of the Government’s commitment to the sector through the provision of the tax incentive, Section 481.”

Ireland continues to be a popular filming location, partly as a result of its incentive programme. Current high-profile television dramas filming in Ireland include Vikings (above) and the BBC’s period crime drama Ripper Street, which doubles Dublin for Victorian London. Moonfleet will film on location in Dublin and County Wicklow.
