Star J Entertainment in South Korea to film adaptation of original Homeland

Star J Entertainment in South Korea will film an adaptation of Israeli TV drama series Prisoners of War, which was remade in the US as Homeland. The new show will mark the original programme’s fourth adaptation and will focus on political tensions between North and South Korea.

Homeland's initial premise focussed on a US soldier returning to America after years spent as a prisoner in Iraq, but with questions hanging over whether he was ‘turned’ to the Taliban’s cause.

Israel’s Keshet Media Group produced the original Prisoners of War drama and the new Korean version will also involve producers Teddy Zee and Sebastian Lee.

“We believe that the ongoing conflict between South Korea and North Korea makes the adaptation of Prisoners of War especially compelling and timely,” said Zee.

Added Lee: “With this co-operation with Keshet, we hope to expand the influence of the so-called Korean Wave in Asia and beyond.”

Alon Shtruzman, the CEO of Keshet International, commented: “We are very excited about the first Asian adaptation of Prisoners of War. I look forward to seeing how the Koreans interpret this incredible story. It’s a gem in our portfolio which is continuously evolving and extending its lifecycle internationally.”

Homeland has been a big hit in the US, becoming one of the most talked-about dramas on TV. The series is based in North Carolina and was recently confirmed for a fourth season.

South Korean capital Seoul is scheduled to host filming for Marvel’s superhero sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which will further boost the country’s international filmmaking profile.
