TV drama TURN: Washington’s Spies to film third series in Virginia
Period war drama TURN: Washington’s Spies is set to film a third season on location in Virginia. Set during America’s Revolutionary War of the 1770s, the series is based on the true story of a clandestine group of spies who assisted George Washington in the fight against the British.
Virginia offers a base 15% tax credit and a separate grant programme as a filming incentive programme.
TURN was supported with tax credits payments of around USD 13 million over the past two seasons and is estimated to have had an economic impact of more than USD 100 million.
“The first two seasons were a gripping recreation of one of the most significant eras in American history, and Season 3 promises to be even more compelling,” said Terry McAuliffe, Governor of Virginia.
“We are proud to be associated with such a high-quality endeavour that also provides jobs and financial benefits for Virginia workers and businesses.”
Added Andy Edmunds, Director of the Virginia Film Office: “It is an extraordinary win for Virginia to have TURN return for Season 3. A television series is a gift that keeps on giving for the production industry in the Commonwealth.
“We also worked with AMC to create a broadcast commercial promoting Virginia that was shown during each episode of TURN, thus shining a spotlight on the state’s exceptional tourism assets.”
Virginia’s history and filming incentive support make it a popular US filming location and there is currently a surge of interest in Civil War-era productions.
Steven Spielberg shot his Oscar-winning biopic Lincoln in Richmond and Petersburg. More recent productions have included Mercy Street and Josephine.
